Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

As we spring ahead to warmer weather and longer days, we are reminded it’s the perfect time to refresh and maintain your home. In addition to your regular spring cleaning, use this checklist to ensure your home is in top condition for the season - inside and out.

Outdoor Maintenance

• Power wash, stain, or reseal the deck to protect it from the elements. (The optimal temperature is 50 degrees or higher.)
• Apply fertilizer to promote a healthy lawn. (Aim for when the soil temperature is 55 degrees or around when your lawn needs its first mowing.)
• Trim trees and shrubs to encourage new growth.

Exterior Inspection & Repairs

• Clean and reinstall window and door screens.
• Clear gutters and downspouts of any debris.
• Schedule a professional septic system inspection and pump if needed.
• Examine the roof for loose, damaged, or missing shingles.
• Check the chimney for any signs of damage.
• Wash exterior windows.
• Use a pressure washer to clean the siding.
• Replace or repair weather stripping and caulking around doors, windows, and exterior systems.
• Remove faucet insulation and test outdoor water systems, including sprinklers.

Indoor Cleaning & Upkeep

• Remove mineral buildup from faucet aerators and showerheads.
• Dust light fixtures and polish wood furniture.
• Test and replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
• Inspect and recaulk sinks, showers, and bathtubs as needed.
• Clean out the dryer vent to prevent lint buildup.
• Install a new air-conditioner filter.
• Schedule a maintenance check-up for your air-conditioning system.
• Drain and flush the water heater to maintain efficiency.
